Alex Brooks prints

My favorite Christmas present was for a year's subscription to Alex Brooks' CSA (where A stands for art instead of agriculture). The latest installments included handprinted dogwoods *swoon*

and robots fighting monsters in Lexington (see the 5/3 bank building down at the bottom?). I photoshopped some color into it for my own amusement. He'd make some kick-ass coloring books.

I feel very lucky to know this talented guy personally and call him my friend. Check out his other few things at Press 817. I think his etsy shop is closed down for now, as he gets ready to embark on his Fulbright adventures.

Recover old RSS subscription list in NetNewsWire

*sound of angels singing*

Like the creator of this post, I too like to live on the edge with only a few GB of free space on my laptop...which has occasionally dipped to the DANGER, 0 GB of space. Both times, my NetNewsWire feeds have been completely deleted. I open NNW and find the reset values which are sports and technical blogs that interest me not at all. The first time, I spent a full day re-finding a lot of the feeds I used to read. The second time, I made my lists shorter. The third time, I gave up. I haven't been reading my RSS feeds for over a month.

But this simple set of instructions has recovered all my lost subscriptions. Thank goodness!!!

Close NetNewsWire
Go to ~/Library/Application Support/NetNewsWire/ and delete the Subscriptions.plist file
Open the Backups/ folder, and you will see a list of your subscription files with backup dates.
Copy the latest one back into the NetNewsWire/ folder, and rename it to Subscriptions.plist
Restart NetNewsWire and your subscriptions should be recovered.

Domesticity

Chelsea was busy while I was hiking today, no thanks to the children. Let her tell you about it.

Green Mountain

I hadn't gone on a hike since I got to Boulder, so I was really excited to get out today with my good friend Dave (and Buddy, the husky) to hike up Green Mountain. It was snowy and cold up there. Another hiker said, "It's not often a trail takes you back in time, it's like visiting March up here!" I was glad to have brought my thermos of warm chamomile tea. My body is thoroughly and wonderfully tired after that hike. Good company, good view, good day.

Phoenix

Phoenix is my niece. She is 6.5 months old. I watch her during the day, 3 days a week, before working at Snarfs. When I first got here, she could just barely sit up by herself. Now she can sit up, roll over, and quasi-almost-crawl, stand up, is starting to balance well, and she can walk a little bit if she's holding your fingers. Other milestones since I've been here: eating food instead of just breastmilk, solid poops to match, sitting in a highchair. I wonder what else will happen before I leave.
She is a joy. I've never really liked babies. But she is a joy--no whining, only cranky when she's teething, easy to please, content to chill, and she likes to dance. When she's asleep I clean up the house. When she's awake, she gets fed or changed, but here are some pics of other things we do.

Sometimes I'm half asleep (with the imprint of my sheets still on my face) when I start watching her.

Then I put on music, and all is well.

We go on walks. She has to wear a hat to protect her head from the sun.

Chataqua, one of the places we went on a walk once. It's right up the road from Chelsea's.

Buddy comes on our walks. Here we are tying Buddy up while we go in to the grocery store.

After walks, she usually falls asleep.

Then I can put her to bed for a nap while I do laundry.

She's very good at playing on the blanket while I vacuum.

Diaper change.

Food time!

Nothing like a snooze and a bottle.

She likes to make faces.

And to bite my pen.

She has a great sense of humor.

At night, she tries to stay up til Chelsea and Vinny get home. But...

We went to Dot's Diner w/ the family one morning.

On Mother's Day, she looked like a little angel with her frilly sleeves and the yellow bracelet (halo). She got a bruise from exercising her mobility and bumping her face. )o:

Me and both my nieces.

Here they are being tigers on my bed.
